GUS AND MICHELE MCMAHON, owners of Mountain Brook Cottages, are celebrating their 25th year. Recently they were presented a plaque by the Honda Sport Touring Association during the group's sixth stay at Mountain Brook. "In recognition of 25 years of successful business, enduring, surviving, putting up with and just plain grinning and bearing it! We offer our heartfelt and sincere thanks for welcoming the 'gang' into your home and six years of wonderful memories," the plaque said.
Formerly Clarks Cottages, Mountain Brook was purchased in 1979 and has been remodeled and updated through the years. It holds a two-star rating with the American Automobile Association. Maquelle McMahon, a 1989 graduate of Smoky Mountain High, returned to the area in 1999 to assist her parents in operating Mountain Brook as they gradually retire. She gained experience in the hospitality field at Fairlake of Westin, Fla., Marriott Hotels and Southpark Suites of Charlotte, and plans to carry on the tradition of providing travelers with a quiet getaway in the Great Smokies.
